To all Gucci little monsters (borrowing Lady Gaga's term for 'fans'), mark your calendar. Next Thursday on the 22nd April, Gucci Icon-Temporary Pop-up sneakers store is gonna reach London @ Covent Garden. At 37, Earlham St WC2 to be exact. And mark your Ronson's too - coz yes, you heard it right - Mark Ronson is designing two out of the 17 sneakers for men. Special for London!
One of them is featured in this week's issue of Shortlist. A hi-top/deck shoe hybrid in grey tweed. You might ask, why tweed? Well, isn't that tweed is the fabric that is always associated with the Brits? If you go way into the countryside or up to the highlands, tweed or flannel always become the material of choice. Or in other word, it's a quaintessential British; alongside brogue lace-ups.
Oh, buying the sneakers @ Gucci Icon-Temporary store means you get the dog tag and a 12 inch vinyl containing music composed by Mark Ronson. And I think you gonna get a special carrier bag featuring Union Jack on the front, while the sneakers comes in a silver box instead of the typical bronze-colored Gucci boxes.
Wait, I'm not finished yet. To mark the opening of the store that will last for 3 weeks, Gucci also gonna sell the 'iPhone exclusive' sneakers. By which I think you can't find it in that pop-up store. It's the Gucci Ronson deck shoe in black & white polka dots. If you ask me, once seeing this one it sways me back to the mod era of how Carnaby Street really started as the birthplace of Brits fashion. And polka dots is among the signature patterns associated with the 'flower power' era in London that time. So, get an iPod Touch or iPhone... or befriend with someone who got one, and drool it through the Gucci apps. ;)
I can say that I love the color of both shoes, though I'm not really crazy about their designs (sorry, Gucci). Not to mention that they are way too pricey for a sneakers! But hey, maybe there're some little monsters out there really can't wait to get a hold of those beauties!
