I was rummaging through the bunch of newspapers that haven't been removed under my coffee table ever since the last time I'm here. I can't imagine how long they have been there - some even dated back in 2006 which is literally can be classified as 'vintage' by now. Some even turned out to be bit browny - a sign of its ageing.
While I was collecting all of them to be discarded, suddenly as if some fashion fairy whisked off her magic wand upon me, one newspaper fall off to the floor. And revealed open an editorial clippings on - believe it or not - men's fashion. I looked at the date; 27 March 2007 - I was gawping in awe. It's more than three years ago! But, man... is this some kind of sign or something? =)
Anyway, what's the editorial is all about? The heading says 'Batik with an edge'. Fyi, batik is a local paintings which seems to use the flora and fauna motifs as the design. It can be either in monochromatic palette or in a burst of colors. Batik is very huge in this country, and even considered as the formalwear too alongside with the dinner suits. But what I like about the editorial is the new take on batik which is infused into the modern clothings like jackets, shirts and scarves.
I really love the 'new edge' it shows. Like in the first pix which kinda reminisce tribal motifs in Gucci SS10 with that geometric prints. The one that I really fell head over heel is the bias-cut shirt ala kimono in that shimmery fabric - buts sans the batik cumberband btw. (I know what I'm gonna wear for next Eid..lol!). The other jacket, which is the Nehru, is quite interesting with some lacy flowery motifs which is quite similar to the shirt that I tried last year at H&M - though I think the fit is overly loose. I'd like to see those in a more slim-fitting way.
But anyway, the editorial is already 3 years old. I dunno how the men's fashion in this country has evolved after that. For that... just watch this space. =)
