Mentioning Roland Mouret, one thing that popped up to the mind is the beautifully cut dresses which has become a choice by the Hollywood A-listers like Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz and Demi Moore. Even Victoria Beckham is a great fan of Mouret's design which is so chic and accentuates the women's body very well. When the designer announces that he's gonna release his own menswear range, I am quite sceptical of how is it gonna be? Do the collection will be having that feminine flair from the women's dresses? Would the designs be having lots of body-hugging silhouettes? Or is the collection worth the effort or is it gonna be just an extension to the RM by Roland Mouret brand?
Well, the questions are answered when MR by Roland Mouret made its debut for Autumn 2010. Body-hugging? Nope, except for the last pix which I think a usual look for any knitwear. Feminine flair? Not that either since the collection really looks masculine. Very masculine, indeed; unlike what Muccia Prada did for her Prada's Autumn 2010 collection. An extension to RM'? Not really...but maybe complimentary, especially when you relate the 'leopard' print on the first two pixs to some pieces in the womenswear.
Yet, one thing for sure - they all look very Mouret himself. Something that he wears, since he admit it when saying that the collection is "to think and reflect on what men might really want. How men dress. How I dress.... I see this as a wardrobe, not a collection”.
And yes, it is his wardrobe. Straight-legged trousers which some appears very loose, 1930's-inspired that looks kinda what Tomas Maier did for Bottega Veneta. The knitwear is more to 'regular' or 'comfy' fit rather than too slimfitting. And the suits are beautifully tailored, which is somehow really what Mouret always being seen wearing.
Yet, key pieces that I think really stand out are the overcoat that could be the items that you should invest in for Autumn 2010.
