For another time, Matt Benstead has graced five pages editorial spread for Shortlist magazine. I think he has become a favorite model by the magazine team since been featured quite a number of times in the Style section. What not? I think he got a perfect look since most of the editorial written is related to British fashion. Matt being British, and wearing h2t from British designers, gracing the pages for a British mag - that's a perfect combo. Plus, I think he can look commercial and high-fashion edgy at a same time; which is hard to do!
Anyway. Shortlist Style in previous week's issue features the 'unsung hero' of British fashion. From a name that you're familiar with like Nicole Farhi, to the understated but great talents like Albam, Universal Works, Oliver Spencer and Margaret Howell - they're what the essence of British menswear is all about. Paying homage to the long-lasting heritage and tradition, their clothing is a true English (or Scottish. Or Welsh) bloke would wear. (Or almost would wanna wear). Fabric like Harris tweed, herringbone wool and cotton canvas dominates the construction of the clothes. Wearable? Without a doubt, yes. But the key is always in the details. The craftsmanship is superb. I'm always a big fan of anything gotta do with tweed - especially the one that is sourced way up from North England - coz they're fantastic. None can match the quality that came from the British soil.
Among the names mentioned, I like Albam coz their clothes have some charm about it. I love their knitwear coz when I touch the fabric, I know they're of great quality (and that's why it's quite pricey, eek!). Good yarn of wool, awesome knitting techniques and the fit is quite okay (though I was hoping for more slimmer fit anyway!). Btw, one thing I love about Albam is their store at Commercial Street, East London (in Shoreditch). There's something about the whole ambience that lured me to go inside. Whether its the cosiness or nonchalant mood it exudes - that I dunno. The store looks so cool, feel warm and welcoming. One thing for sure, I might return to the store if I get a chance to visit London again. :)
