What's with the fish fuss

S
Today's editorial of the Big Fish features five Greek fashion bloggers above the title "New media avenge themselves (but they do it in style)". Myself, The Soho Symposium, Life Full of Fashion, Battered Couture and Life in Athens were the sample chosen to represent the growing community of fashion bloggers that do not aim to judge or guide, but share and discuss.

An honour, no question, especially as it came so unexpectedly. Had never thought of what we so naturally do every morning as influential or world changing, but indeed, independent fashion blogging is a snap back to reality, a shout out to those that often forget that fashion is there to serve real people.

If this was your first dive into fashion blogging, hope you took a deep breath: the clicks are endless.

SHORTLIST Style: Raw Denim

S
Spring/Summer 2010 is definitely the year of denim. It doesn't really matter if it's a stonewashed denim, acid-washed or even raw - anything goes. And all the trend forecasters and stylists out there say it's okay to do double denim. Or triple. As long as it make sense and goes well with the theme of the day (which is what... cowboy?? errk!), then you'll decide. :)

So. Shortlist issue last week has line up some of the raw denims out there on the market. Me, I really love raw denim coz it's simply a pure classic. Since the color is not 'washed out', I can dress up or dress down with it easily. Wear it with white tee to look casual or throw over a slim fit blazer over a shirt with it to do semi-formal. Anything can go well with raw denims. And the best that I like is the Selvage. It's kinda interesting when people ask, how do you know a Selvage denim? Well, just look at the inner side - if there's red hems along the joining part of the jeans, then it's a Selvage. Easy.

My personal pick for raw denim would always be Uniqlo simply becoz the material is great at very low price (and the fact that I always get 10% off. Hihi!). And they've rebranded their denim line - simply becoming UJ. And oh, I've just learned something today. If you're buying raw denims at Uniqlo, the size comes in either 30, 32 and 34 length (which is very typical in all normal Uniqlo jeans anyway). But for their colored jeans - they only comes in 34. But you can still alter it, right? My other pick of raw denims - GAP. Very nice selections, though a bit pricey. And River Island also got new range of raw jeans too.

Whatever it is - SS10 is time to go for raw denims. Raw ma, raw ma ma...ga ga ooh la la!! Lol!

Oh, another thing. In Men's Health mag last month, it says that Sweden is the capital of jeans. Really? Hmmm... interesting. Anyone from Stockholm would wanna welcome me to their city? Ahaks!! No, I don't wanna go to Ikea, silly. :)

Talking about GAP jeans, there's supermodels galore fronting the campaign. From Chanel Iman to Sean O'Pry. And GAP has just finish their 30%-off all denims today. Errk... sorry!

zaBigLittleSnoop: Shop The Drop @ COS

S
Aaah... At last, the mercury has risen a bit this weekend. It doesn't really matter if it's raining outside, as long as it's not frickin' freezing cold - my weekend (or simply, any day) would definitely be the best ever. Coz I don't have to worry to wear layers and layers of clothes anymore, which is now become such a sickening thing to do.

Anyway, my quick snoop - a very, very quick one indeed - is at COS. I was so interested to try this new jumper when I saw it on their website last week. Pretty cool. It seems that everyone has been doing dropped neck all the way, huh? From River Island, Topman and even H&M with their version of oversized, dropped neck tee which I tried last week. This one from COS look pretty okay in the pix. And when I saw it in COS @ Regent Street, yes it does look like what in the site. Love the material - wool, making the fit just right. But I didn't try it on coz I hate the color though. Navy blue. Oh, please... you can give me any color except navy blue. Hate that color. If COS made it in other monochrome like black and grey, then there might be a chance I'm bringing one home.

And the price.. £49??! No way, Jose... Another reason not to like it. Btw, I still love the design. :)

The 14th GGD, dedicated to fashion blogging

S
Last night, somewhere in Athens, the 14th GGD took place and it was dedicated to fashion blogging. Girl Geek Dinners is a Microsoft Innovation Center initiative, focusing on as well as encouraging women's involvement in the challenging online business environment. Here's the panel of fashion bloggers, giving a new, stylish meaning to the word 'geek':
From left to right, Margarita Gourgourini (superficial intelligence), Maria Papagrigoriou & Eleni Stasinopoulou (oh, so chic), Elena Pakou (Life Full of Fashion) and Haritini Krezou (The Soho Symposium). Each blog very different, yet all focusing on fashion through their own point of view, backgrounds and aspirations. What they do is definitely worth your clicks, even though the international audience will be able to make sense only of the last two.
Among the audience, fashion designer Dimitris Petrou, right above him snapping a photo Lopi (Fashion Architect), next to him in smashing lilac tights Christiana (Fashion Paths), then Thalia (Life in Athens) in the black t-shirt, then Xenia Kourtoglou, Managing Director of Focus Bari and openning speaker for this GGD and far right in red, Vicky Kolovou of Ermoumag.com.

(I couldn't help but noticing Hari's wonderfully matching suede shoes and Elena's (yet another!) statement necklace)

What stayed with me from this (well) worth attending evening was:

a) Men tend to use both technology and the internet more that women, though this gap is closing fast (Focus Bari Research). However, I am wondering -and regret not asking- if this is based on research involving the online gaming activity.

b) (Fashion) blogs are websites in their own right, they are in most cases daily updated, they have rich content and a growing, noticeable readership, they have URLs. They are not minor in any way just because owner, editor-in-chief and author are the same person. On the contrary, that makes them fast and flexible.

c) Fashion blogs are becoming the new favourite target for pr and advertising companies. And that is both good news and bad news for a medium that has been successful because of its independence. Let's say it's food for thought.

d) Dimitris Petrou will not be showing at any of the soon to follow fashion events, but is planning his own private catwalk. This blog likes Petrou's work a lot so dear all, I will elaborate in this piece of news on a different post later in March.

I don't mean to make this post too long so that's it for now, hope you all have a lovely weekend.

As I was saying a couple of posts ago, I am in the mood for platforms these days. Happy to see that so is Dukas.
My point of view would certainly change on a pair of these.
By 13 centimetres to say the least.

Rihanna TATTOOS

S
“I like hanging out in tattoo shops,” Rihanna has said. “I am so intrigued by tattoos. It’s an entire culture, and I study it. Sometimes I go with friends, or just by myself. I get bum-rushed, but I don’t care. I don’t take security.”
This appears to be Rihanna’s first tattoo. She got it around somewhere in 2006. It was obviously inspired by her fresh music career. Rihanna has once said that music is in her D.N.A. Now everyone can easily notice that music tunes are on her foot as well.
It was done by a famous Brazilian artist who books three years in advance. Luckily for Rihanna he was in Tokyo at the same time when Rihanna was so he could create it for her immediately.
Rihanna wanted to have a sankrit prayer going down her right hip that was saying “Forgiveness, Honesty, Suppression and Control”. Unfortunately it was misspelled.
The star was created in the Village in NYC. She has just stopped by the parol and asked for a tattoo.
An Arabic phrase on her ribcage area reading ‘Al Hurria fi Al Maseeh‘ translating into Freedom in God.
The starts on the back of her neck were started in LA. Later Bang Bang from New York City has finished them. He has added a group of stars flowing down her back to join the first set of stars on her neck.
The tattoo appears on her left ankle and it was done durning her stay in Miami.
She got it in Los Angeles from one of the artists she used before.
This one is the most inspiring of her tattoos. It was already copied by Lindsay Lohan and Lily Allen. Many fans has also decided to get one exactly like Rihanna’s.
Rihanna has decided to tattoo birthday date of her best friend Melissa on her left shoulder. Melissa did a very same tattoo just after her.
Rihanna revealed that she got the exotic-looking tat while in New Zealand durning her tour. “It’s their traditional way of tattooing,” she said of the Maori-inspired geometric design. “I always wanted [one].” “It represents strength and love.” But even for a tattoo enthusiast like Rihanna, this particular method had one big drawback: “It hurt like hell!”
Durning her LA getaway Rihanna has flew her tattoist Bang Bang from NYC to her home in the Hills. She has decided to give a tattoo as a birthday gift to her friend. And at the same time she has decided to get one for herself.
Rihanna hit up East Side Ink at 2 AM this morning to have her own personal motto “Never a failure, always a lesson” tattooed backwards near her right shoulder. That way she can read it in the mirror. Clever.
