Object of Lust: Denim Totes

Apart from perforated, canvas and being normally associated with snakeskin, Spring/Summer trend is also the time when denim takes its reign when it comes to accessories department. In many seasons now, designers has produces such great arrays of denim bags - for instancce, the Mulberry Piccadilly in luscious indigo denim last SS08, as well as Dolce & Gabbana 'Western' look washed denim tote and messenger bags in previous SS10. On the highstreet is not too bad either as He by Mango also did their versions in two consecutive summers - the denim-like tote in SS09 as well as the backpack last year. So, in short - denim is an object to lust when Spring/Summer came to mind.

Continuing the tradition, this summer also sees quite a number of denim bags in the high-end market. Like Louis Vuitton who sent off their models last SS11 catwalk show in Paris carrying those gorgeous, vintage looking cabas and weekender bag. In a glance I thought it was just a washed canvas, but upon checking in their official website it's actually denim material. Selvage denim, perhaps coz they look quite raw. Very simple, no-fuss design with army green leather handles to comple the chic look. The other one is actually what I like, i.e. the weekender bag in monogram 'LV' denim with diagonal leather handles. I dunno whether it echoes any Oriental influence, but nonetheless this holdall is fantastic. The only thing about these LV bags... expect the price to shoot above £1000!

On the other side of designe labels is Prada with their rendition of washed denim just like previous D&G. I actually love the combination of blue and brown - an awesome pair coz they look very symbiotic together. It's amazing that Prada offers new material this time since for seasons now it's only about leather and technofabric (well, at least that's what I saw at Bond Street or at Harrods anyway). Some features about this tote include the adjustable double handles as well as the detachable shoulder strap to give variety in carrying the tote. This bag looks very tempting indeed...

Pantone Color Report Fall/Winter 2011/12

Finally, Pantone fashion color report for Fall/Winter 2011/12 has finally been released. As previously mentioned, the color of the season is Deep Teal green. In addition to the color palette for womenswear, this time around Pantone included the color used in menswear as well, though on just one page. Perhaps in future, the details on who's who using what could make their cut into the report.

Fashion Week Style: It's a Lap!

You think Fashion Weeks has already ended after London made its curtain call last week? Well, not exactly coz the fashion packs has now gonna redo the thing all over for another cycle when it restarted in Milan, even before London finished. If last January it's all about Milano Uomo and Pitti Uomo, now the tide turns for the womenswear instead, with Gucci has showcased their Fall/Winter 2011 collection last Wednesday. Next stop is Paris... though many have doubts whether Dior gonna make its presence after Galliano's arrest a couple of days ago due to the you-know-what incident. But somehow, what's fashion without its drama too? (I think I might do Amy Winehouse song: They wanna make me go to Dior, I said.. Galliano...no..no.. ahaks!).

Anyway, lets move our attention to something which is equally interesting - the Fashion Weeks style. Previously we've seen tweed making a huge fav among the fashionistos when attending the catwalk shows, from tweed jackets and blazers up to the waistcoats and ties as well. This time, see what they're bringing along with them.

For some fashion packs who think carrying a backpack or totes with them is a big chore (and a major 'workout'), clutching a portfolio folder and laptop cases is another good choice. You not only can store the gadgets and some documents inside, the great thing is it's much more mobile and not too bulky. Chuck things in, zip it (or tab it), clutch it and you're ready to go. And of course, you won't block other people's seats or passageways too when you're sitting to view the show coz they're basically gonna be put on your lap. Easy, right? And a safer bet...

So, if you have the word 'fashionisto' stamped on your forehead, would you be seen in a normal laptop cases? Not unless they're a designer ones. Or at least something quirky cool...

Oh, in case you're a diehard fan of Fashion Weeks and always fly here and there to four major fashion capitals in the world, you might wanna get this tee from H&M. It has London, Paris, New York and Milan on it - in reverse - which I think might be an interesting (and crazy) choice for you to wear during the events. Or give it to your intern instead... ha!

Man on Wednesday: And the Winners are...

Though London has only one dedicated day for menswear to be showcased during the Fashion Week - the Man on Wednesday - yet it's a great platform to project many great talents who offer ensembles for men to wear. Years in, years out there's so many designers has already become household names among Londoners, if not in the entire UK, like Lou Dalton, Christopher Shannon, James Long, and the likes, that has given some variety for blokes out there to own pieces in their wardrobe for their daily wear. One great thing about the Brits' designs is the broad range that you see on the catwalk, which reflect how the people actually look on the street themselves. Some very traditional in their dapper cut suits, some in very crazy street style, some inject a sense of mod 60s, and some even mix it up and looks very contemporary. Yet, all in all - you can see people wearing those on the street of London. Well, almost...

For Fall/Winter 2011, these are some of my favorites when it comes to menswear. I'd have to say my pick of the winner this time is James Long who had produces amazing pieces especially the gorgeous knitwear, which I think is gonna be a great hit when some of them would be available at Topman Oxford Circus later this year. From the overcoat and biker jacket in dusky pink tweed, or the gradual tone oversized cardi or the sweaters that look a a bit decon, they look awesome.

My second pick is Tween. I think it's a good show with most of the pieces are wearable without a doubt. I love the slimming form of the clothes, as well as the use of wool in kost of them. My personal fav are the db jackets that looks modern and very mod at the same time.

The next contender is Hardy Amies. This is how the essence of the world's great tailors from Saville Row is all about when it comes to bespoke tailoring - amazing cut which reflect the dapper quality of a gentlemen. Hardy Amies is a classic, big household name who stands among others like Ozwald Boateng, Gieves & Hawkes and Richard James, who is famous for those who'd like to own suits that really one of its kind. For FW11, I love to see the modern feel which is slimmer and with some new twist, together with the color pallette that looks quite contemporary. My fav of course the db jackets, again.

My final fav is Omar Kashoura which seems to inject a sense of nonchalance, sporty feel into his collection. I actually like the colors used especially the light grey as well as the Pantone color of Fall/Winter 2011 - deep teal. My fav is the wool trousers which I think a great investment when it comes to the cold weather when fall.winter hits the British Isle again in two seasons to come. Also the suede shearling jacket on the last pix which is not too overwhelming unlike previous Burberry FW10/11.
