River Island Spring/Summer 2011 Preview

S
January is always an exciting month, isn't it? Not only that it's the beginning of a new year - a time when all the new year resolutions are still burning hot in everyone's spirit - but it's also the time when everyone started to talk about the new trend for Spring/Summer which is gonna hit in a couple of months time. With previously snowing and now drizzles up there in the Northern hemisphere, to the raining season, wet and chill and partly flooding down here in the Southern, I think everyone is just hoping for one thing: warm and dry weather to appear very soon. Right? Everyone loves a clear blue sky, aren't they?

And talking about January and Spring/Summer 2011, boy... am I really excited to see the new ad campaigns by the major fashion houses which will be rolled out into the print media later this month. Some new faces, some old faces...but one thing that everyone's talking about is: where's la Moss?? It seems that Kate Moss 'disappear' for the advertorials next season, which kinda...erm... 'validate' that she wanted a time-out for a while. I won't ruled her out though coz you'd never know what Kate will do out of the blue! There might be something big coming out soon... And oh, did you heard about the new French Vogue editor, Emmanuelle Alt who took over the reign from Carine Roitfeld? Huhu... the fashion world is truly buzzing with the news and 2011 would definitely see a bombastic change in the fashion industry, I hope!

January also the start of Fashion Week. Milan will kick off with the Milano Moda Uomo starting 15th - 18th, then Paris gonna took over to showcase the menswear collection on 19th -23rd, and Haute Couture on the 24th-27th; then all eyes will go turn to New York in February (10-17) and finally London (18-23). Isn't that exciting? I know there'll be lots more Fashion Week from all over the world like Sao Paolo, Berlin, etc...etc. So keep your eyes open on what's the next trend gonna be! (And watch out for my post on the Pantone Color for next seasons!)

Ok, enough for that. Mentioning Spring/Summer 2011 the highstreet stores also have their fair share on what's the new look gonna be. One of them is the preview by River Island for the SS11 collection. I have to say it's quite fresh and have better tailoring compared to last SS10. Neutrals goes head to head with subdued blue and navy, with a dash of white and forest green. A major change is when 'wrinkles' really took over on the outerwear, unlike previously that I normally see on some shirts and tees. Pretty cool, though it looks a bit like Burberry SS09 (esp the wrinkly mac). One thing I love about River Island is the slimmer silhouette that they done pretty well, and I can even see it here in this preview collection - esp on the trousers and some jackets. They're not too loose like what spring/summer is normally famous for, nor too tight which is towards fall/winter. Slim, just nice. And I love the use of linen for the construction, which is very breathable esp when you wear it in the scorching heat.

I think it's a pretty cool collection. And the model also helps to bring out the mood: fresh!
