Oxford Street London from My Lens

S
Throughout this blog I've been mentioning the name Oxford Street so many times. Oxford Street this, Oxford Street that. You've probably get bored when the names keep on popping up in some of the posts every now and then. Then again, there's some of you also requested if I could show them the pix of Oxford Street, coz they wanna see how it looks like. So... voila! These are some of the snaps that I took 6 months ago prior returning home. It's the end of summer 2010, hence you can see lots of people wearing very less clothing...

Oxford Street is divided into two part - Oxford Street West, started from the Marble Arch, going right thru Bond Street station and end to Oxford Circus. Whereas Oxford Street East commences from the Oxford Circus tube station then going all the way to Tottenham Court Road station (Tottenham is pronounced as tot-nem, not tot-ten-hem, okay!) by which is now is undergoing a massive upgrading for the Crossrail services. In total Oxford Street spans almost a mile and a half... so you have a pretty good idea how I get so slim after walking this street on weekly basis (sometimes daily!). Thank goodness, my Gucci and Armani boots are made for walking!

Oxford Street is indeed a must-visit street in London coz it's the ultimate shopping experience when it comes to shopping. While we here in Asia is embroiled too much on the shopping complexes - there in London the stores that line on both sides of the sidewalks really are the major attractions (hence the name highstreet stores!). Big names and flagship stores are there, like Uniqlo, H&M, River Island, Zara, Benetton, Topman, Topshop etc...etc, as well as large shopping malls like John Lewis, Selfridges and Debenhams are also a huge crowd-puller. And mentioning Topman/Topshop - you've gotta come to London for it's megastore which is truly humungous!

So, indulge yourself in these pixs taken using the miniature mode of Canon Ixus 130 ultracompact camera. Truly fantastic piece of gadget!

Oh, btw. When taking escalators in London, PLEASE STAND ON THE RIGHT !!!

The starting point : Oxford Circus station, with four corner entry to the tube station.

There's an X-crossing for the pedestrian, inspired by the one seen at Shibuya, Japan.

This view is facing east. You got Niketown on the left, with its amazing NikeID section!

View facing West. On the left is the Bond Street station.

Oxford Street West, view toward the east.

Uniqlo flagship store is on the far right, while River Island flagship store is one store after that Aldo.

John Lewis shopping center... it got its brother store, Peter Jones at Sloane Square.

View of crowd on weekday basis. During weekend, they tripled. Or even quadrapled!

Oxford Circus station is undergoing upgrading works with an installation of elevator.

Oxford Street East... on the left is a huge Urban Outfitters store.

My fav hangout, Zara. This is one out of more than 12 Zara in London! Right after this, is to get my Frappucino @ Starbucks, located on the first floor at New Look store (formerly Borders).

H&M. Has undergone massive renovation recently...

next to it is another Uniqlo!

At Oxford Street East, there're many independent stores. Many has also close shops due to massive contruction of the Crossrail in the area.

Diverted traffic due to construction. I dunno what's happening in the area right this moment...

but in 2013, there'll be new and modern Tottenham Court Road station for sure!
