Another season, another kaftans or tunics are seen on the catwalk. In the previous Spring/Summer 2010, it was Versace who tapped the Moroccan-inspired tunics which got very beautiful dyed motifs on them. Then for current SS11, it went to the French fashion house - Jean Paul Gaultier - that borrows the look in some of the pieces in monochromatic ensembles. And now, it moves to the Stateside as John Varvatos showcased very beautiful kaftans for his collection for Spring/Summer 2012 collection in Milan. (John is American, isn't he?)
Very lightweight, very billowy as you moves around, and some even sheer to give a hint of edge to the otherwise plain kaftans. The colors of whites, nudes and greys, in hi-sheen fabric are amazing look at. Wear it with either the waistcoat ala Pakistani, or a blazer ala... erm, yours truly. Ha!
Or, if you're a fashion daredevil, wear it with military-inspired jackets. They look great as well..
Mentioning military-inspired jackets, it's with great 'honor' to say that - military will not fade for another season!
