+J Spring 2010 Hits London

The advert @ Oxford Circus station

The countdown...

The day has arrived again. After last October when Jil Sander for Uniqlo hit worldwide stores, there's a huge hoopla on the capsule collection by the famous German designer. The promo is everywhere. In the Metro, in Evening Standard, in Shortlist... just a lot.

But this time around, the promo seem to be a bit less. Not much in the paper, perhaps because Evening Standard is only started last week into circulation. And there's only some ad here and there like at Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus and Green Park stations. I was quite amazed how Grazia mag did some promo in their website about limited tickets for the +J Spring 2010 collection at Uniqlo;

"....there are only 250 tickets... imagine, you don’t even have to queue!"

Queue? What queue? When I went to the store that morning, just after 9 am, there's not a hint of a queue. Unlike the label's debut in last October where me myself had to queue for quite sometimes outside Uniqlo at Oxford Street. But last Thursday, probably becoz of the weather not permitting them to do so, no line whatsoever. Otherwise all the frenzy shoppers would be frozen to death. Lol!

So, what's my verdict on the new +J collection for Spring 2010?

Mixed bags really. One thing for sure, there are some new pieces as I post in this blog recently.

  • New fabrics - like stretched cotton, mohair, cotton blend and cotton cashmere.
  • New colors - like striking turquoise, lots of greys, taupes and sands, and some pinks too.
  • New pieces - like the woven-effect cardi and jumpers, new jackets and shirts in the collection.

Overall, it's quite ok though I tend not to go for any 2-button blazers coz it's just not my thing. The macs look very simple - yes, very Jil Sander DNA btw. The jumpers and cardi with the woven-effect design - hmm... just not what I will buy. The pants and jeans? Not to my liking either coz it's just like the usual Uniqlo stuff.

The shirts are somewhat I think everyone should buy and there seem to be slighly different in cut and fabric as well. Slim-fit shirts now come with buttoned-down collar (unlike previously without the buttons), while regular shirt is now with unbuttoned collar and a pocket. The fabric is much softer and luscious, and feel so amazing on the skin. The streched denim-like shirts - ooh, that's something that I can put my finger on it. Love it.

So, do I went home empty handed? Look at the pics below.. :)
