Philosophy : Revisited

S
I've just realised that I haven't blog about fashion for almost 3 weeks. That, my friend, is definitely a long period in planet style. Yet alone in the fashion galaxy itself, coz fashion always evolve every seconds. Even as you blink right now, somewhere somehow someone out there is thinking about a fashion idea or a style fix or even a fashion revolution to be shared, written or exposed in the print media or in the blogosphere. To me fashion is not just a perfect escapism; it's also a perfect outlet to tap your talent into something related to 'art' which you never knew you could be good at. Life is too short - so why not diverse your talent in as many ways as you can, right?

Okay, lemme touch a bit of this new year. My new motto for 2011 is - less about shopping clothes, more about living life. Living life in a fireworks of style, without a doubt. I think with all the clothes and shoes and bags and what not which is too abundant, I don't think I ever need to go shopping anymore. Except if my body blow up into larger size; then I HAVE to go shopping! Ha! But... as this moment of time, my collection will last for seasons - in fact, most of them are even seasonless.

And my other motto is to support the local fashion scene. I have to say I already get a taster on the Malaysian fashion scene when I came back for a Spring break back in April 2010. I have to say though I'm quite sceptical with everything which is not as 'bombastic' as in London when it comes to menswear, well at least I'm quite happy that there are some fashion outlets out there really upped their game pretty well and go head to head with other famous highstreet brands that I'm familiar with. Yeah, we do have Topman, Zara, French Connection and Uniqlo here - but on top of that Malaysians should be lucky coz there are local brands which make us much more special. Like Key Ng, who is into fusion fashion that combines the element of Oriental with edgy western look. Or the otai, Edmund Ser who's been in the business for as long as I can remember (his Bramstoker collection back in the 90s is still fresh in my mind, though I'm still a kid that time!). There's even SEED and Padini, though I think they still have to learn more in keeping up with the trends and the fabric used. Yeah, there's quite a lot and I can't wait to re-explore everything from now on...

Okay, enough with that. As an inaugural effort for my support, I'm revisiting the collection of one the highstreet brand: Philosophy Men. I learnt to know that brandname when I read some of the Chinese fashion mag that i bought. Yes, you heard it right, Chinese fashion mag. I don't understand a thing about the writings but at I know about the fashion they have in there, coz fashion is indeed a universal language. Just like music.

What I love about Philosphy Men is the edgy look that's really parallel with the trend that I see on the other side of the hemisphere. Plunging necklines on the sweaters, slim silhouettes seen on the tops and some trousers, military, crumpled fabrics, the use of scarves as accessories - they're all the kind of clothes I usually wear back in London. And the best part: the cowl and boat neck seen on some pieces, that is huge trend since winter 2009. I'm also quite surprise when they also did skorts - the fusion of skirt and shorts, which in the end look like a kilt. Might not be anyone cuppa tea, but at least they're being innovative. I love the color used too which is a mix between rich and vibrant to the subdued and monochromatic. It's the kind of variety that keep the collection interesting.

Overall. I love the collection. Dunno whether they still got some of the pieces featured here coz this is actually for Christmas 2009. Anyhow, I'm excited coz at least there are some fashion outlets that can keep me and my other fellow neo-Malaysians who'd love looking fashiontastic!
