Too Much Bretons!

S
Breton stripes are huge this season. And I do mean HUGE with the capital H. You saw it everywhere - on the catwalk during the Spring/Summer 2011 show, in the highstreet stores, and of course... on the streets. It's stripes galore! Whether it's stripes all the way, or the Jean Paul Gaultier sailor lookalike - Breton is definitely a hot trend that never fail to appear whenever summer comes. I think the way it breathes nautical theme is what charmed people.

Me too has been succumbed into the lure of stripes. My victim of the situation? Absolutely at Asos, coz they got a humungous collection of stripey t-shirts. Either short, three-quarter, or long sleeves; Asos has a burst of Breton this time around in many color choices to choose from. With the price tag that's always dear to the wallet, Breton stripes at Asos is one stop to head down to. Period.

For every tee you see below, I have at least two for each pair coz I have a simple principle: if I like it, always buy two. That's why I have too much Bretons now!

Prada 'Bowling Bag' Holdall

S
Italian fashion house channels Sixties kitsch with its nostalgic leather ‘Righe’ collection.

We’re not huge fans of heavily branded designer accessories, but an element of tongue-in-cheek irony can add some fun to your wardrobe. Prada’s latest collection of accessories, which includes weekend holdalls, wallets and in-flight wheelie cases, does just this. Influenced by Sixties nostalgia, with a vintage collegiate locker-room vibe, the ‘Righe’ collection (‘righe’ is Italian for ‘stripe’) is crafted from fine saffiano leather. Our favourite item is this bowling bag. Yes it’s pricey, but it’s guaranteed to make you the centre of attention.

Camel Beauty @ Gucci FW'11

S
The color camel has spilled into Fall/Winter collection again, but this time it's seen on the accessories instead of just on the clothes. Seen at Gucci for FW11/12, some bags collection in camel looks utterly delicious in buttery soft leather. From the tote with the plait handles, to the portfolio and messenger bags carrying the same intrecciato features - camel is indeed a neutral tone that will make it huge for next season.

Another thing I realize is that Gucci keep on continuing their effort to downplay the 'too much logo' branding and opting for the mujirushi concept again. Times and times, any bags awashed with the interlocking double G logos or the one that bears a big 'Gucci' on the center have started to fade, and goes with a bit discreet branding detail like the signature diamante pattern or like these pieces with a very small logo on the bottom side. Too small that you do need to 'scrutinize' the bag, which eventually would lead you to that aha! moment, "oh my, this is Gucci!". Does Gucci finally started to grab the similar ethos like what Tomas Maier did for Bottega Veneta : no brand or logo is needed, instead the craftsmanship of the said item is the one that truly speak out that it is indeed from the fashion house? A brilliant move towards the less conspicuous world.

Btw, I love that camel portfolio. What a succulently tempting clutch...

Object of Lust : Gucci 'Firenze 1921' Weekender

S
Another object of lust to be shortlisted for Fall/Winter 2011 is this weekender bag by Gucci. Seen on the runway during the previous presentation in January, I really love the look and all about this particular tote. Since Fall/Winter is synonymous with anything 'warming' (not global warming!), the body material of the bag is wool, added with the leather top flap cover and other trims.

It looks pretty simple, but the color combination that really gives off a real beauty of the bag. Somehow it's kind of a modern interpretation of the retro Gucci travelling tote, which previously seen in Gucci archives.

With the horizontal lockable strap on the top flap, doesn't it reminds you of Hermes Birkin?

A Reason to Clutch

S
One accessory that can complete the look is the clutch. Whether it's a laptop case, a wristlet or even a typical portfolio bag; clutch has swarmed into the male counterpart ever since. I love a clutch, coz somehow it creates a comfort factor whenever I went out walking from one point to another. Either going to class, or to a meeting or even to the library - by having things to hold on my hand instead of just berlenggang with none, I feel safer and minimize that awkward feeling.

Previously, my Gucci laptop case is my faithful companion, whereas right now even my iPad case can even considered as my own 'clutch', though it doesn't really fit that bill. Whatever it is, at the recent Fashion Week in Milan and Paris, some are seen with the clutch in hand. Various style, various purposes and various designer labels are aplenty to keep them holding on to something!

A comfort factor, I guess...

Buttery soft... delicious!

Woven? This intrecciato is synonymous with Bottega Veneta.

This is so rustic chic!

This nude color is to die for!

Similar Vibes, Different Designer...

S
When Gucci sent off the models holding the new tote bag for Spring/Summer 2012, all I wanted to say is that the bag resembles a bit to the one I saw at Celine. Nope, not exactly the same I know... but it has quite similar vibes again. Especially the look at both ends of the bag which seem to be 'flipped out' kinda thing.

While Celine is for the ladies (by which I notice the whole fascia looks like a 'smiley'), the Gucci tote is much masculine with the center flap for extra secure storage. Recalling the article in one of the newspaper last year, it seems that Gucci keep on playing the 'label-less' game by offering the bags without its typical Gucci monogramme. Good for those who wanna be less conspicuous.

Milan Fashion Week : The Bags. Part 2.

S
Ermenegildo Zegna
Suedes galore... from the satchels, to totes and backpack, Spring/Summer 2012 promises that suede is taking its reign in the Zegna household. I truly love the adjustable handle trim, which color looks so harmonius with the body of the bags.

Etro
One thing that I love is the first pix : the sailor bag with paisley print. Truly delish...

Gucci
There's an reinterpretation of the heritage Gucci one more time as the fashion house dug the archive and modernise the duffel bags. If FW10 they came as fully covered, this time they're in the form of tote with the middle flap. The design, does it somehow echoed the Celine bag?

There's also some retro vibes seen on the holdall, as well as the scale down of Gucci webbing from three stripes to two.

My personal pick is absolutely the white diamante tote. Fantastico!

object of lust... :)

Port 1921
The mlutch invasion again. Looks very cool with the chain strap that hold to your wrist.

Roberto Cavalli
Cavalli probably thinking about travel on a yacht coz the bag got the stripes which gives the marina feel. I like the big travelling bag, which somehow reminds me of old movies. Very retro and classics.

And the best pick: the bucket bag with stripes canvas body and leather trim. Ultimate summer carryall...

Versace
The large tote in cream and tan leather reminisces Burberry SS09. And I like the extra little touch of the geometric Greek pattern on the bags that Versace is really famous for.

Z Zegna
Ethnic-inspired stripes briefcase for a gentlemen who dare to be different.
