Joining the Slim Gang

Converse Chuck Taylor slim sneakers are new? Nope, not to me at least coz I got it last year when it made it debut in the UK early 2010. The slimmer undersoles are the coolest thing ever coz somehow it reinvented the typical Chuck Taylor that has been a cult to any Converse lovers.

When I was invigilating a group of Masters students yesterday, I found something that delighted me. Though the invigilation itself was the most boring invigilation ever - coz there's only 14 students, and I am there alone, with no one to talk to! - on the other hand, seeing some of them wearing the Converse Slim sneakers at least gave a smile to my face. Glad becoz someone in the campus really know their fashion pretty well too... and looking much contemporary with that shoes.

All I can say : holla! Welcome to the Slim gang. You have a new way to Converse!

Suit + Sneakers Combination

Would it be a major fashion faux pas if you wear a suit with a pair of sneakers? Not anymore coz these days there're no rules in fashion. You can basically wear anything that you want - the only thing is, whether it looks good or not, which is a different question after all. And not if you know how to rock it too. One that is 'almost' got it right for the suit-sneakers combo is Jay Baruchel, which I happen to notice in my previous blogpost. [read here].

To me there is nothing wrong of pairing these two. Well, at least not for the office for sure coz you should look a bit 'respectable' when you sign the deal papers. Yet, suit+sneakers is always okay after-five activities, or during which you wanna feel a bit casual when you go out with your mates. How to pair suit+sneakers, it's up to you, and our friend at Glam Lelaki give some choice how to do it.

So, a Dior suit with a Converse All Stars, anybody?

Converse a New Shoe Language

I flipped through the pages in the Stylist magazine yesterday and suddenly my eyes stuck to this ad campaign by Converse. I'm guessing you can see what I see... oh no, not the skinny legs (and the less skinny!) . But the shoes worn by the person on the far left. Looks like a cut-out sneakers which is so the in thing in the footwear trend this season. I've seen it in quite a couple runway shows - Jean Paul Gaultier did his own version of cut-out sneakers. Neil Barrett also have his own collection. And so as Iceberg.

As much as the menswear has their take on the cut-out sneakers, this one by Converse though is not for the lads. It's for the ladies. Still, I think it's pretty cool - giving a breath of fresh air to the typical All Star sneakers (yeah, breath of fresh air coz the air can go in. Get it?).

Yet, if you think it's pretty unfair for Converse not offering the same thing to the guys, you copy the look by wearing this cutout sneakers by Ksubi. By its appearance and all, the shoes - erm, the sandals ... erm, the sneakers... oh, now I'm confused.... the footwear (there you go!) looks pretty much the same.

BigFatSpender: Back to Black Part 2

This is a typical case of someone who is a Converse lover, and would like a variety in a same 'theme'. If in the previous months I got the one in canvas, now I got another Converse slim hi-top sneakers in all-black leather. It's actually not much different compared to my older leather Converse; the only change here is just the thickness of the base.

I think the slim Converse looks much more contemporary than a traditional Chuck Taylor. As same as my canvas slim, the comfy of the sneakers is not a compromise since I'm not feeling any gravel on the street when I stepped into them while walking. Love the texture of the material - the tumbled leather - which is so 'robust'. And to add a little flair to the shoes, the lining on the soles is given a grey color... just to make it a bit less 'bland'!

Converse Hi Slimmed Down

I love that Converse has finally embraced the need to slim down without compromising on the classic look of their famous Chuck Taylor series. When I visited some shoe stores back a couple of months ago I am quite drawn into the new Converse hi slim sneakers that was on display. I can say I love the new look so much coz it won't add bulk and chunkiness down under unlike the traditional Chucks. It's much lighter and looks more like plimsols that made a huge trend on the London highstreet.

To me this new slim Chuck Taylor is the neo-classic by Converse yet to be huge on the streets. So much so, I even bagged one in black canvas which I think the ultimate Converse 'standard'. And if you ask whether the feet is protected or comfy due to the slimming down of the soles: well, all I can say this is Converse, dude. Comfy is not a compromise coz the soles are really no difference than the 'non-slim' version. It's still thick that I can't even feel the gravel on the pavement unlike some cheap plimsols I found at highstreet stores.

I think I may get another one in ox too. Or a hi leather like in the pix below. Just to have some variations in my shoe closet. :)

Converse All Star Hendrix

New from Converse All Stars. If you're a big fan of Jimi Hendrix, then you've gotta love this new sneakers bearing the similarities to the signature vintage army jacket that the guitarist is famous for. In blue canvas with gold-colored loops will surely set you apart from other Converse wearers. Isn't that it looks awesome?

Oh, btw... having a talent in playing that electric guitar is an option though. Ahaks! For you and me, let's just start with the air guitar first. (perhaps that Guitar Hero for Wii might come handy though..;D)

No, I'm afraid you can't get into the house, but you can snap the photo of the blue plaques which proof you've been there. Where to find?
