Love Simone Spring/Summer Lookbook Sneak Peak!

S

On Friday I did my first real shoot for Love Simone with the darling local photographer Kristin Sweeting! We had so much playing dress up and staging an outdoor tea party with hanging teacups, doily lanterns, and mason jars filled with roses! I think we created the most beautiful wonderland and was sad to have to take it all down once it got dark. I can't wait to show you all the completed lookbook in a few weeks. After that I will be listing the entire collection on Etsy!

Love Simone Update: Local Honey Re-Stock

S

Here's what I've been working on for the past few weeks! Lots of reconstructed slips and bed jackets have hit Local Honey, as well as some ADORABLE bloomers. I'm kind of obsessed with them.....dreaming of different ways to wear them (pajamas, to the beach as a cute cover up, a picnic in the park...endless, right?!). The pink linen ones are made from a vintage tablecloth and the floral ones were made from fabric that I cut off of an ugly floor length dress! There's just something kind of exhilarating about cutting up something old and drab and making it into something entirely new.

I've decided to finally revamp my Etsy store and put up some of my summer bloomers and other reconstructed items since currently I only sell in Nashville! So be on the lookout for it :)

Georgina Skalidi recycles fashion

S
For the week between tomorrow, March 18th and Saturday, March 26th, accessories designer Georgina Skalidi is hosting a second-hand bazaar at her new space in Kolonaki. 'Let's Recycle Fashion!' is the brief shout out that came along with the announcement. Whether 'eco' translates to ecological or economical to you, this event applies to both.

En Vit Ekorre - music, fashion & ecology

S
En Vit Ekorre is apparently a stage designer as well as a costume & accessories designer. She's the one responsible for most performance outfits of Film featuring Etten gigs (including last night's at Gagarin, see below). As there aren't many local live shows of such costume attention, thought it's worth dropping a line about it.
En Vit Ekorre features 'Athens - Stockholm' with a brief about note saying the brand stands for recycling vintage fabrics, clothes, as well as all kinds of materials spotted at flea markets in Athens, Stockholm and Berlin. It's all about mixing fashion and ecology, and looks like the outcome goes down well on stage.

I thought her item presentations are quite special too, so here's a peep before you click on to check her out.

Holy 2010

S
Most of you know Holy Mustache by now, whether because you've attended his vintage recycling bazaars, seen him on mags or you've previously read this. He's just released a retrospective clip of what kept him busy in 2010, but first, here's one I've missed - 'Transformation':

Directed by: Theo Prodromidis
Music by: Silly Boy - Time is all mine, The Milfettes - Boygirl

What follows is not exactly your usual fashion clip. It's Holy's 2010, a year in moments, parties and posters, in 'Fast Forward':

Directed by: Efthimis Kusemund
Music by: Felizol (Featuring The Boy) - Helen on the dock of the bay

Outfit Details:
Blouse-
Vintage from Venus & Mars...Sadly they will be closing their doors after Saturday :(
Skirt- JC Penney
Tights- Cynthia Rowley (via Gilt Groupe)
Wedges- Jeffrey Campbell
Headband- H&M
Bracelets- F21

So I've finally had a few spare moments this week...Tuesday My mom, sister and I went shopping and stopped by Venus and Mars to look at what was left. I found this lovely white sheer ruffle blouse, an amazing pink pleated bed jacket..and even walked away with one of those large feathers that used to adorn the shop (Thanks Talvin :). The tights are result of a Gilt Groupe shopping binge in which I purchased several pairs of Cynthia Rowley tights last month, and the shoes...well the shoes are the newest addition to my coveted collection of Jeffrey Campbells! They're the perfect blend of a wedge and a mary-jane shoe...and decidedly comfortable enough to traipse around the house on Thanksgiving :)

Today I am hanging out with my family and my darling cats, making pies, croissants, and of course, turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans, and to everyone else, Happy Thursday!

It was Lagerfeld at her feet

S
That's no random shoe at Ino Mei's feet in this poster.
It's Lagerfeld Gallery, s/s 01 (if we all remember well today).

And it's a love story: student Ino was back then flicking through French glossy Jalouse when the catwalk image stood out. She had to have them, she turned on the back page store directory. She actually called the Lagerfeld boutique in Paris. They actually had one last pair in her size. Something like a year's pocket money in drachma was instantly bank transferred and came back as the object of her 2001 summer desire. She still remembers the smell of unworn leather upon opening the box. Those shoes still look impressive, still at her feet, good as new.

Living happily ever after with the one (pair) you fell in love with is indeed a happy end - in fashionland and beyond.

The child in me is having Blanos, Glyfada flash-backs at the sight of this poster. I'm so going. Let's hope it's like riding a bicycle (you never forget how to?!).

A Leather Bow and a Cameo by Little Bee

S

Outfit Details:
Blouse- Handmade
Shorts- French Connection
Vintage Knee Socks- Venus & Mars
Brown Mary-Jane Heels- Red or Dead
Buckle Flats- Dolce Vita
Leather Bow Band- Handmade

Last night I was rummaging through some sewing baskets and came across piles and piles of leather scraps my Mother bought in San Francisco a few years back. Left alone until we figured out what to do with them, I pulled a few out and started to make some bows. I then attached a few to headbands, made some pins with others, and am thinking of doing some hair clips as well. I can't wait to show you all the leather. Some of the pieces are just so beautiful, with floral motifs, patent detailing, and soft supple metallic suedes. I'm planning on (finally) updating my Etsy with some of these within the next few days!

Last week I made this lovely little puff sleeved bow blouse as a nudge to get myself back into some sewing (i've been an awful non-motivated lump when it comes to designing this summer I'm afraid). I'm very happy with the way it turned out, and even wore it last Monday as well...alas there was no one around to take some photos so I put it back on today! And I'm very very pleased to introduce my dear Little Bee, who decided to make an appearance in today's photos! He is my charming little cat (one of three), who is a bit of a wild child. His favorite post is to sit right in the middle of our dining room table (he attempts to do so at meal times as well..so scandalous!).

On my way out the door I changed out of my heels since I was going into work, and my Mother said she liked these buckle flats better with this outfit, so she snapped some photos of them as well. What do you think?

I wish I wasn't working all day, but I'm glad I get out at 5 because I'm going to hop over to Katy K's to go to the soft opening of Closet Case Vintage. Our very own beloved Lauren Winter of Blooming Leopold will also be selling her lovely vintage wares as well!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

Oh PS: I have created a Tumblr, where I have been posting random bits and bobs..visit it here!

Holy Summer in the city

S
Holy Summer is happening in this city, the Summer version of Holy Mustache's vintage bazaar. You can have a look at what's in stock at TORA - K44, Konstantinoupoleos 44, Gazi (Athens), till this Thursday the 17th.
*Holy & co went for a water gun photo-shoot in the oh-so-hot city centre. Caught my eye in this week's Lifo, get your full splash here.

'Endyesthai'

S
'Endyesthai' - greek for 'to dress' - is an exhibition by the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation currently hosted at Benaki Museum, Athens (Pireos str. branch). I told you it was coming up back in October, but now you can actually visit it as its doors will stay open until May 23rd.

A presentation of this nature and variety takes place for the first time in Greece, with exhibits ranging to clothes from the 18th century till the 21st. Not only do they reflect the evolution of what we wear throught the centuries but also stresses out the need for the establishment of a Dress Cultural Museum. And yes, how we choose to dress reflects our culture in many ways.

Excellent touch, the guided tours performed by reknown designers, ready to take you though all exhibited forms of wearable and... not wearable exhibits which were created by the need to cover our nudity. For the scedule you can check this post by Shopping Therapy.

All images are courtesy of pli.gr

No true fashion lover in this city (country) should miss out.

*You don't need to request invites or a press pass to get in. However nobody promises you celebrity encounters or that your photo will be snapped by a magazine. Let's see how many fashion sweethearts will queue outside this one, here's your chance.

Mad about Holy

S
(continued from here)
This is Holy. Holy Mustache. A Vintage Collector, Stylist & Producer, a... Vintage Brand and +
HOLY MA$H+ Dresscode Parties Host (sic from FooBoo). He's been throwing a Vintage Bazaar at Intrepid Fox since last Sunday and it was partly luck, partly curiosity that brought me to its doorstep. Here's a quickie (?) on how it was:The Gem
The space was packed with vintage-retro sweet stuff.
What's the gem of your collection?
"This '40s authentic swim-suit" (above) he said without second thoughts and indeed this was a gem. However it wasn't the gem for me, being a couple of sizes too big.

The Moment
Holy is a very good host I have to say, he happily took me for a tour. The moment* he really had me though was right here, in front of this pool-table-turned-to-purse-display:
Where does all this come from?

"Most of it is brand new, just old. I am really into Greek vintage stuff (moment*). I look for old stock in good condition, from old Greek companies that may no longer be around. Take these purses for example".
The Suit-Case
And in case you are the kind of person that likes hidden treasures, he hid some in this suit-case, knock yourselves out. Hid them, and priced them for 10 euros each. It wasn't just the suitcase contents in this price range though.

The Wedding Dress
If(/when?) I get married I want my wedding dress to be delivered in this look (and french accent).
"What do you think of this wedding dress?" Holy says. I am thinking "it rocks" but I say "I am not getting married soon". "You don't need to get married to wear a great dress" says he. Now there's a thought.
Memory Box
At the back of the room. Filled with and surrounded by magazines and objects that lay in our childhood memories. 'Manina', 'Katerina', a walkman, new-old sexy garters and some ('70s?) porn magazines - records of life before photoshop. (last ones are not in my childhood memories, but if I was a boy...?)
Radio Retro
And fully working too. Looking at the picture now I'm thinking it'd also make one smashing music handbag.
Friend
This is an insider's one. Placed here to send "thinking of you"s to a friend who works (hard) for Olympic Airlines which once was Airways. Ok, I quite like it too.

The Poster
So. Today is the last day, scheduled to reach the finish line in Rock'n'Roll by Jesus De La Mascara. Go look for those 'made in Greece' tags but make sure you check out the new arrivals from Sidney too, meet Holy and make him style you, flick through stories of the past whilst cipping your beer. Poster reads 'Holy Gone Mad' and so will you about what's in store (bar).
(i'll show you what I bought soon, it's special and deserves a post of its own)
