The past few days, I've come across Vassilis Barbarigos'name (even him in person) more than any other designer. I consider it a sign so I'll share: At 4FashionShake II with Romina Karamanea (centre) and Ino Mei (far left). He's up to something with Apollonia B. (I spied this picture on a mobile phone) And what is this I see on the t-shirt of Kataifi'sfriend, Paul Sarz, the other night at Joanaddicted'sbirthday bash? Icing on the cake, Barbarigos' a/w 11 collection lookbookhitting me on the side column of my FB feed today. (Cool shoot and sexy, smart clothes actually) Something tells me it's gonna be more signs coming my way soon.
London-based, Greek designer Romina Karamanea's show started with a clip of her briefing us on the new collection. Based on geology and nature that deeply inspire her, this was a completely new move for the designer that has never used colour to this extent before.
Here's a clip mainly to give you an idea of catwalk direction and colour palette: It was a rather challenging show for my compact camera, thankfully it wasn't for the lenses of fellow bloggers attending: A collage by The Soho Symposium. Notes: *Hair-styling: hair resembled the roots of a plant.
*Collection vibe: shapes and fabrics switched from winter's dark, rock mood to a more late '80s, nature-impressionistic mood. Ever so interesting when designers choose to leave their safe zone and experiment. It's called 'evolving'.
*Romina Karamanea did not traditionally greet the audience at the end of the show. She was attending however, so I had to ask. Mystery solved: she was actually handling lighting and music of the show personally. Besides, she was present at the beginning through the video and available to greet everyone one-on-one at the party that followed, before flying back to London a few hours later.

Romina Karamanea is a London based Greek designer. She has shown her collections for four seasons during London Fashion Week, yet this was her first show in Athens. In the past, Karamanea's work has been praised by remarkable names like the late Izabella Blow of British Vogue, Franca Sozanni of Italian Vogue and Cameron Silver, the shopkeeper of L.A.'s A-list vintage boutique Decades.
Her a/w 10 collection is black-dominated, with leather as the basis of rounded, futuristic tailored cuts and experimental details. Check her out: (photos above, by my fashion photography sponsor Patricia Munster)
