Two in a Gondola & Elena Pavlou s/s 11

S
How nice, it's the time of the year spring-summer collections pop! Here's Two in a Gondola , Elena Pavlou's prêt-à-porter line for s/s 11:
And the latest of Elena Pavlou's homonymous line, described as mixing haute couture elements in prêt-à-porter:
* Elena Pavlou is a Greek-Cypriot designer whose first label Two in a Gondola was founded in Greece in 2002 and the more exclusive collection bearing her name in 2009. In very short time both collections were embraced by customers all over Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Belgium and Canada. Modernwearing Fashion Web Magazine, Milan, has listed her amongst their favourite designers and Madame Figaro(Cyprus) recently nominated her as Designer of the Year.

Makes you happy + hungry

I've always considered orange to be a defective colour. An imperfect version of red. However it's suddenly grown on me, especially after trying on this one-shoulder top at the recent Two in a Gondola bazaar.

Semiologically, it is meant to increase oxygen supply to the brain as well as mental activity, happiness and enthusiasm (source). It's also supposed to stimulate appetite (source) so do blame this shoot if you feel like killing a bucket of ice-cream right now.

AXDW day 1 - Two in A Gondola (+backstage)

S
How about some backstage action?
The mastermind of 'Two in A Gondola', lovely Elena Pavlou invited me in the "action room" and I thought you might want to check it out! It was not the first time I've been backstage at a show so I knew well that once there, you have to find a little corner out of everybody's way and try to be invisible. Did my best to capture some interesting shots and clips to show you, here they go:
Everybody was working at full power, with the Pansik girls taking care of the dressing process. Elena was giving directions to the models and making sure her clothes are ready to roll and even though that's one very stressful moment for the designer, she took a second to smile for you through my lense (it's in the clip).

Impossible moment
, three minutes before the beginning of the show, someone rushes in and informs the floor manager his car is being towed away! The man must have nerves of steel 'cause he stayed calm and professional and kept placing the models in line. Oh Lord, had it been my car!
And whilst this was going on backstage, on stage the show totally rocked:

Here's a small preview of what you're about to see on the catwalk this Saturday, followed by parts of the official release:
Recreating the drapes of the garments on ancient Greek statues was seen as a challenge by the designer Elena Pavlou, who came up with the idea to convert these shapes into contemporary clothing. Thus, the concept “Fragile Stiffness” is the guideline for her personal label two in a gondola. Her aim is to create living statues in the city!

She uses three-dimensional cuts to enhance the natural flow of loose garments, creating a new and contemporary aspect of the draping. The whole look is playful and chic, dynamic while not aggressive, since the organic cuts create flattering lines for the female figure.

Clean forms, short jackets, cocoon tops worn with pencil trousers, balloon skirts and short dresses as well as bizarre overcoats comprise the collection Two in A Gondola – Prêt-à-Porter.

The designer’s proposal is accompanied by compact, sometimes heavy, fabrics, like Lana cotta and punto roma, or lightweight see-through silks and elaborated jerseys. Matt and glossy textures are combined in the same garment interacting playfully with the light.

Two in a Gondola looks fine.

S
" Two in a Gondola" is a couple in Venice, floating on water, kissing and vowing eternal love. "Two in a Gondola" is a couple of friends, killing time in Italy, both lives aboard the same boat in every way. However Elena Pavlou's Two in a Gondola is a fashion brand, floating alright, on your body.

All of the designs she comes up with her team can be worn in more than one ways, "polymorphic" as they'd call them. Discovered them a few months ago and back then I was certain I was trying on some mysterious new Italian brand. Elena's email set things straight: this line can only be found in Greece, Cyprus and Czech Republic!

Quirk and comfort in balance, what's out in stores at the moment is created using wool, cotton and laqué fabrics.
Which stores? This gondola may be closer than you think: all noted at twoinagondola.com.
