Indie band Tall Ships faces of new collection

S

Fashion clips go beyond designer houses and fashion comes all the closer to music. Phenomenon pictured well in this clip where indie band Tall Ships sports the new Label Lab menswear collection for House of Fraser. The new collection has been launched exclusively at selected House of Fraser stores in the UK and online.

The look is described as edgy, slim, distressed, and macabre, in a monochromatic colour palette featuring mainly greys, blacks and neutrals. Tall Ships were selected as the ideal faces and sound to project this as well as a "cool" menswear image.

Note 'Fashion + Music' under your major come-back column.

Benetton goes green

S
Benetton is ditching plastic hangers for 100% biodegradable and recyclable eco-hangers. Switching to liquid wood hangers is expected to result in 600 tons less plastic waste. Its eco-sustainable business plan also involves eco-friendly paper shopping bags and organic cotton fabrics, showing some love to mother nature. Nice move.

Here's the campaign as illustrated by Philip Bone (Fabrica) and photographed by Gustavo Millon (Fabrica), followed by a video on liquid hangers:

Yell.com's new campaign. Say 'cheese'.

S
Yell.com is introducing a new, impossible service with a fun campaign. And it’s all about supporting local businesses, boutiques and independent stores! Bonus, you get a chance to win £10,000 worth of prizes like 55” Sony 3D TV, a surround sound system, decks, mixing lessons, and more.

The advert gives you a clue about what you have to do:

Let’s say you are looking for the lost classic copy of Pulse & Thunder, a vintage piece of 90s dance history by Day V Lately. Save yourself the legwork: utilising the Yell App (for Android or iPhone) – or Yell.com – locate an independent music shop near you and the record could soon be in your hands.

Speaking of which, limited copies of DJ Day V Lately’s trance mix of the record produced in the early 90s have been scattered especially, at independent music stores for you to dig out and snap a photo with. That’s all it takes to enter the competition and win the prizes! Treasure hunt anyone? Say ‘cheese’.

A creative, fun campaign, well tuned with the ‘90s music revival we are currently undergoing. Hunting down rare records is only one example of what Yell.com can do. What blew my mind is ShopView. Any business in Britain can now put a video on video.yell.com for free, so customers can have a look around inside and meet the staff.

Can’t wait for a tour inside small boutiques, locating vintage dresses, indie accessories and other objects of my desire - which are mostly rare. I guess winning £10,000 would help in bringing them home. Make my day, Day V Lately!

*competition entries begin on February 26th, more info

Acne extravaganza at net-a-porter

S
Net-a-porter.com will be celebrating the arrival of new season Acne with an Acne extravaganza in its online magazine, tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th. Alongside the main fashion shoot there will be two videos of Acne founder and designer Jonny Johansson –a lifestyle film of his favourite places in Stockholm and a profile interview. A sneak peek arrived in my inbox, sharing it below:

Looking forward to tomorrow's full version release.
Great idea, be inspired.

Gotta love flash mobs!

S

Flash mobs are such a spontaneous, cheerful shout in the otherwise predictable city life. I don't think this has ever happened to Greece before, so check out how the team of buldoza.gr brightened this bunch' day. Crazy!

'Giving away joy and cheer to people, that's what Christmas is about, that's what our flash mob was about. Enjoy & share'. Oh, I'm sharing alright! Joy to the world;)

Sublime Stitching

S
Since we are all in the search for some unusual yet affordable pressies right now, let me suggest... stitching embroidery patterns. The one above is currently featured at Tatty Devine's* devine eshop, for 4 quid. You can check it out or go for a hella lot more at Sublime Stitching, including stitching kits and tools. If in Athens, you can always walk in at one of the many shops opposite Syntagma square (direction Monastiraki) for a blast-from-the-past (yet so now) experience.

I'm sure this crosses out at least one name off your list...Does it?!

*Reads 'Art jewellery handmade in England' right at the top. English stuff handmade in England. You know how excited I go about declarations of local production:)

What's like to be famous

S
Ever secretly wondered what's like to be famous?
Come on, of course you have!

Hewlett Packard has created this sweet little application to show you what it would be like to live the highs and lows of the celebrity lifestyle. It's as close as it gets to experiencing what being famous comes with:
seeing your face on buildings, magazines, headlines about your lovelife(!)

Watch me living HP stardom below (I should add this clip in my 'reasons for always hiding my face' defence) and go get your piece here. Last night you were the girl next door, this morning you are talk of the town.
Send me your bit.ly/ links if you try it, I'll be your biggest fan;)

Liked having the chance to experience fame? You can officially like it on facebook too:

Stores that will be stocking it in Greece:
Ermou 22 - Athens

Kolokotroni 3-5 - Athens
Tsimiski 40 - Thessaloniki

Campaign features elderly and overweight model too. Much closer to reality considering not all shoppers are extra young, extra slim.

cool(er) beach bag

S
West Coast Cooler has boarded the Greek summer by taking as many fash-bloggers as a Golden Class projection room could fit, for SATC 2. This wine made a point about being inspired by girlie bonds but it's not all about style you can only watch in a movie (and afford in a dream). To put this in a picture, WCC created a beach bag full of colourful summer essentials and had it at our doorstep. It was like the Irish myth about a treasure at the end of a rainbow, only I get to keep the rainbow too. And got something fruity and fat free to toast with. Sweet.

Ejekt Poster
Have been looking forward to Ejekt. Last summer I didn't make it to Faith No More and my most credible tough cookie source said it was the best live he'd been to in Athens. Thrilled to be having a second chance so soon. Bad Religion on the other hand come straight from my rox teens. Hoping it's gonna be pier 3 all over again, just like 1996. Wouldn't miss it for the world. And neither should Unkle fans out there, who I hope have already checked out this chance to actually meet Unkle by Stop That Sound. If not, you still got time so move those fingers.

Construction site fashion

S
The title was a joke between me and friend who shot these photos in Milan the other day. How true though, in that city, even construction sites have to somehow be "dressed" in style. And why not? They are going to sit there all covered in scaffolding, disturbing our view for quite a while. On the other hand, it shouldn't be too hard for advertisers to capture the audience with such a loud antithesis.
Pretty or tricky, here it is:

How ...red is your love

S
This must be the unspoken question of the day.
Kipling 's answer is finding your perfect match in one of its 'real red' arm candies. The fan of red handbags that I am, my love is growing deeper for Kipling.
Have a lovely (Valentine's) day.

Sales windows classic

S
For this blog at least. It's the windows of London Selfridges back in the sales of 2004, rising from my archive. I don't think I've come across any other windows that get the message across so directly, both in the sense of what's happening in-store as well as what we hope will happen after we leave the till. May you always bring home life-changing buys, amen.

S

Sales stickers & stuff

S
Sales are everywhere in Greece and so are the sales decs. Loud, tempting, bright, pop, brave or even silly. I find there's something about them. Here's what's out at the moment:

The straight forward approach.

The baroque approach.

The 3D approach.

The oldskool approach.

Putting your cards on the table (window) approach.

The spell-it-out-for-you approach.

The tag-for-the-short-sighted approach.

The elegant approach.

The circling the prey approach.

The we-do-not-go-for-stickers, curtain approach.

The we-totally-go-for-stickers, full window approach.

The sinking approach.

And the winning detail:

This one would be totally lost in translation for the non-Greek readers. I guess it's something like making a card to wish someone "Merry Christmas" and instead of spelling out "merry", you stick the face of a person named Mary - kindergarden humour, I know:)
